Overview
A wonderful vibrant community centred around the local shopping village and the unique and beautiful Fagan Park. A relaxed pace, natural beauty and rich fertile soil make the suburb one of the most popular in the area. Annual Community events include the Bushland Shire Festival, the Galston Springfest, the Open Gardens Weekend and in years gone by the Galston Country Music festival.
Situated some 36 kms north west of the Sydney Central Business District it forms part of the Hills Rural District situated in the Hornsby Shire Council. It forms part of a unique and varied region within easy proximity to both the Hornsby and Castle Hill shopping precincts. Easy access to modern road networks link the area to the Sydney CBD, The North Coast and suburbs and regions in all directions via the M1, M2, M4 & M7 motorways.
The suburb was originally known as Upper Dural until an early settler named Alex Hutchinson suggested that it should be called Galston after a town in Scotland. Galston has always been a rich agricultural area with many farms and orchards being operated throughout its history.
Historic Waddell Cottage still stands proudly today being built in 1866 by James Waddell as his family home.
Fagan Park is a large garden themed park and recreational area on Arcadia Road originally owned by the Fagan Family who donated it for the use and enjoyment of the residents and public who wish to enjoy it. The Park is today maintained by Hornsby Shire Council.
Galston Gorge connects the suburb to Hornsby, a scenic and winding road with many twists and hairpins that is a ‘rite of passage’ for all L-Platers!
Galston High School is a proud and much celebrated secondary school that services a large proportion of the Hills District. There is also a public school.
Galston also features a large oval, recreational parks, an indoor aquatic centre, skate park, library and The Galston Club entertainment facilty.
